Loan Process & Application
Start Your Loan Application
Buying a home or planning improvements should feel exciting, not overwhelming. NFC’s loan process is designed to be supportive and straightforward, whether you’re a first‑time homebuyer or a long‑time homeowner making updates for comfort, safety, or energy efficiency.
Here’s how to get started.
Step 1 — Check Your Address
Because NFC’s programs are neighborhood-based, your address determines which loan options you may qualify for.
Use the Home Locator Tool to confirm whether your current home or the home you’re considering is located within an NFC Lending Area.
Step 2 — Connect With NFC
Once you know your lending area, reach out to our team to discuss your goals. We’ll help you understand:
- Which loan programs fit your needs
- First‑time homebuyer options
- Renovation or repair financing
- Partner programs like Invest DSM
Step 3 — Complete Your Application
Polk County
Serving areas of Des Moines, Urbandale and West Des Moines.
What Happens After You Apply
Once your application is submitted, an NFC loan originator begins a review and evaluation process and will conduct a property inspection to identify required repairs, safety needs, and eligible improvements. This ensures your project aligns with NFC guidelines and program requirements. After the inspection, your loan originator reviews your application, confirms eligibility, and discusses your approved loan amount, forgivable or deferred options, and any renovation requirements.
When everything is finalized, you’ll move to closing, and from there, you can begin your renovation or proceed with your home purchase. NFC stays connected throughout the process to support you every step of the way.
