Lending Areas

NFC lends in designated neighborhoods, and each area has its own loan options and guidelines. Because our funding is place-based, eligibility depends on your address.

If you’re planning updates that make your home more comfortable or efficient or if you’re a first-homebuyer exploring your options – we can help you understand what you qualify for. Start by checking your address.

How Lending Areas Work

NFC is a nonprofit lender that focuses investment where it can make the greatest impact. Our lending areas are defined neighborhoods across Polk County and Cedar Rapids (in Linn County) where Iowan homeowners and first-time buyers can access renovation loans, energy-efficiency financing, forgivable options, and neighborhood-based incentives.

Each area has its own mix of programs, and some neighborhoods also qualify for additional support through partners like Invest DSM, Historic West Des Moines, and other community initiatives.

Why Your Address Matters

Because NFC’s funding is tied to geography, your address determines which programs you may be eligible for. Lending areas help us direct resources to strengthen housing, support long-term residents, and improve neighborhood comfort and stability.

How to Use the Home Locator Map Tool

Enter the full street address of your current home or a home you’re considering into the Home Locator Tool to see whether it’s located within a qualifying Lending Area.

Your address determines which loan programs, forgivable options, and neighborhood-based incentives may be available. Each lending area has its own guidelines, so checking your address is the first step in understanding what you may qualify for.
